The largest known recovery in a California medical malpractice case
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, UNITED STATES, August 12, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Veen Firm, LLP, a San Francisco plaintiffs’ firm representing the catastrophically injured since 1975, has resolved a medical malpractice case for a combined $29 million from an individual health care provider and two institutional defendants. It is the largest known recovery in a California medical malpractice case. Partner Theo Emison led the matter.
Emison brought the case to a resolution with targeted discovery establishing the defendants violated hospital policies and procedures intended to protect patient safety and by digging deep into discovery across text messages between physicians not included in the patient’s medical records that exposed a conflict between the testimony of two physicians involved in the case.

Out of respect for the client’s wishes and under confidentiality provisions in portions of the settlement, the firm will not disclose the identities of the parties, the nature of the injury, or additional facts of the underlying case.
Note to editors on the resolution: Based on research, which by definition is imperfect, the claim is this is the largest known recovery in a case involving only medical malpractice claims governed by MICRA (California’s Medical Injury Compensation Reform Act).
